Patterned tile
Fluted oak, star-pattern floor.
Tile stacked vertically, a star-pattern floor, and a mirror with no straight edges.
The room
A dormer bathroom built on three ideas: tile laid vertically in stack bond, a geometric star-pattern floor, and a freestanding fluted oak washstand.
The wall tile is a handmade-look rectangle with a rippled glaze, laid vertically in stack bond to half height so the joints line up in columns instead of staggering. Above the tile the wall is plain painted plaster, and the ceiling follows the slope of the dormer.
The floor is the counterweight. A geometric encaustic-look tile in a twelve-point star and interlacing pattern runs wall to wall and carries most of the colour in the room.
The washstand is freestanding light oak with a finely fluted front, square legs and an open lower shelf, topped with a thick white worktop and an oval matt white countertop basin. Above it an irregular pebble-shaped mirror is backlit with a warm halo. Brassware is brushed nickel throughout, including the floor-standing bath and shower mixer next to the small freestanding bath.
